A little background: The SIMSUP® models are our bread and butter and what put L41 on the map. We've developed many variations of this basic design over the past 6 years but each one shares the same DNA. These are high aspect ratio displacement hull designs that borrow theories from surfboard pioneer, Bob Simmons (hence the name, SIMSUP). The length, width and bottom contours combine to create a board that gets up on plane with very little effort. This translates to instant down the line speed on any sized wave. Also, the generous nose and tail widths create stability and allow them to be ridden much shorter than you're used to. These boards will change your entire outlook on Stand Up Paddling.
The Original SIMSUP®
These are the original designs and the boards that spawned a whole new subcategory in paddle surfing! Amazingly stable and with more giddy up than any board you've tried. Period. These boards make small waves fun and good waves stellar. Dimensions and volumes can be tailored to suit your individual needs. Please contact us with questions and more information.
"Just wanted to thank you for the SIM! I finally got to surf it in some decent swell and it absolutely rocks. Besides being a beautifully crafted work of art, it flies down the line, catches waves easily, has improved my ability, and makes me look better than I actually am. I can't thank you enough for providing us mere mortal SUPers a magic carpet of a ride." -- Teddy Uroskie, Virginia Beach
The SIMSUP® ST
The SIMSUP ST (Split Tail) gives you all the benefits of a wide tail (built in stability, tons of lift and instant down the line speed) and more. Think two tails in one. This tail design modifies surface area giving this model a more responsive, controlled feeling through turns. A hulled entry which quickly transitions into a single concave under standing position then deep double concave to vee out the tail making this board very stable yet still allowing it to go rail to rail with ease. Three stage rocker adds a flat spot under rider's standing position which helps with paddling and stability. Also acts as a gas pedal under front foot while surfing. Dimensions and volumes can be tailored to suit your individual needs. Please contact us with questions and more information.
Some of our most popular sizes include:
7'4 x 29 x 4 3/8 x 108L
7'8 x 30 x 4 3/8 x 119L
8'0 x 30 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 129L
8'4 x 31 x 4 1/2 x 136L
"WOOHOO! Maiden voyage had some overhead juice! I had a 100 yard dash set wave and found the GAS PEDAL! That board friggin' flies. Fastest board I've ever had. Blows away my old Vanguard 7'11 SUP. Catches waves with style! As soon as that nose feels water it's ready to go. And the step rails like you said, AMAZING. Like a hot knife through butter. And I love the split tail. It's loose with bite! From construction to riding you've hit a goldmine! Great job Kirk, I could not be happier. This is a working piece of art." -- Wil Abbott, Maui
The SIMSUP® S5
The SIMSUP5 (S5) is another study in modern displacement hulls for the SUP world. A redistribution of volume and surface area allows this model to be ridden narrower than your normal board with little effect on overall stability. The parallel rail outline makes this one paddle and catch waves like it's a much longer board. Single concave entry and through the middle transitions into a channel bottom to make this model loose and fast with control! Dimensions and volumes can be tailored to suit your individual needs. Please contact us with questions and more information.
"I've been surfing the 7'3 S5 at Malibu and man the board is a magic carpet it makes all the sections it cuts back so hard and nice in the pocket and smashes off the lip. It pumps down the line really well without the paddle assistance. Seriously so much fun." -- Ty Bergman, Los Angeles
It's a SIMSUP® under the hood but with a much sleeker outline! A wide tail creates tons of surface area under your back foot for added lift, amazing stability and quick planing. Complemented by a channel bottom for improved directional stability gives this one a very lively feel. A narrower nose makes this model versatile in all conditions. Dimensions and volumes can be tailored to suit your individual needs. Please contact us with questions and more information.
The TV Dinner
Taking the high aspect ratio theory and shrinking it down. These little rippers feel as close to riding a shortboard as you will find on a SUP. Like skateboarding on water. Very loose, very fast, very stable and crazy-fun to ride. A single concave entry transitions into a double-barrel vee bottom with or without a simple channel. Dimensions and volumes can be tailored to suit your individual needs. Please contact us with questions and more information.
The Bruce Wayne
For those of you who aren't into the wide tail thing this is our high performance SUP offering. Flat deck with stepped rails concentrates volume where you want it (under your standing position) and not where you don't (on rails, nose or tail). A single to deep double to vee bottom generates lift and amazing speed. Increased nose and tail rockers for versatility in all conditions. Many construction options available. Dimensions and volumes can be tailored to suit your individual needs. Please contact us with questions and more information.
